Regeneration starts with connection.

Next week the inaugural cohort of Top 50 Farmers will come together in person for the very first time, marking the close of a year-long journey rooted in trust, learning, and shared purpose.

This intimate gathering is generously hosted by @marienburg_monheim , where Top 50 Farmer Alexander Zimmer @alexanderz998 has generously opened his land and his philosophy to the group. Made possible through Alexander and his team’s kindness, time, and hospitality, the ability to gather as a community feels like a dream come true.

Rooted in a deep belief that agriculture and gastronomy are inseparable, we are especially excited that Chef @michaschaefer, Culinary Creative Director of @nobelhartundschmutzig, has also accepted our invitation to join us cooking alongside the Top 50 Farmers including using their ingredients to create special meals.

Because without farmers, there would be no food.

We can hardly wait to walk the land, share stories, laughter, and conversation with one another.

It’s through shared experience and collaboration that we build a world where regenerative agriculture is our standard.

Marin Rose, is an assistant professor at the University of Copenhagen in Denmark and the Board Chair of @foodprint.nordic, the nonprofit that launched @top50farmers.

Marin supports regenerative agriculture becoming a widely adopted approach because both research and farmer experience show that regenerative agriculture has the potential to improve soil health, support biodiversity, and help build resilience over time.

At the same time recognizing that what works can look different from place to place and that continued learning, data collection, and monitoring are important. For this reason, Marin believes in the importance of spotlighting farmers as role models because they are innovating, learning, and experimenting daily.

When farmers' experiences are shared and truly listened to, they can inspire others and help shape smarter, more grounded, and evidence-based decision-making across the food system. By elevating farmers' voices and experiences, that knowledge can be turned into amplified action and facilitate lasting change.

Marin Rose is an Assistant Professor at the University of Copenhagen, where she combines a strong scientific background with a lifelong passion to transform food systems. With a PhD in crop diversification and food security Marin has explored the potential of neglected and underutilized species (NUS), including research on breadfruit on the Hawaiian islands, highlighting opportunities for climate adaptation and food resilience.

Over the years, Marin has led and contributed to multiple EU projects fostering collaboration across European food initiatives. Currently, she co-coordinates the Horizon Europe project CLEVERFOOD, which brings together youth, farmers, investors, researchers, and policymakers to drive a fair, circular, and plant-forward food system across Europe.

Beyond her academic work, Marin serves as Board Chair of @foodprint.nordic, where she champions regenerative farming, biodiversity, healthy soils, and sustainable business practices. Her work consistently emphasizes the power of collaboration and the importance of ensuring diverse voices, including smallholder farmers, SMEs, and underrepresented communities help shape the future of food.

Lily Maxwell-Lwin is Head of Communications at @commonland4returns, a global non-profit supporting local people and organisations to restore landscapes through a holistic approach.

She leads a team leveraging the power of storytelling to build a global movement to restore and regenerate the landscapes we call home. An urban planner turned communications strategist, Lily has a background in urban sustainability issues and experience working in and with a range of industries from digital start-ups and non-profits to research institutes and local government.

Through strategic communications, she aims to contribute to creating a world where we can all thrive as part of nature.

Laura Preising is a communications strategist with a deep love for food, soil, and the stories that bind them together. With a background in events, communication, and holistic nutrition, she has spent her career exploring how narratives, role models, and lived experiences can reshape our relationship with what, and how, we eat.

This passion led her to the nonprofit organisation Soil to Soul, where she plays a key role in raising awareness of the powerful link between the human gut microbiome and the microbiome in our soil. Through initiatives in Switzerland and Portugal, @soiltosoulch creates projects that educate, inspire, and incentivise the protection and regeneration of soils. Their work happens directly within the food system, bringing together farmers, chefs, consumers, policymakers, and other key actors to spark meaningful, cross-sector change.

Laura believes that we must rewrite the narrative around soil and the people who care for it. Only then can we truly recognise that good food regenerates both people and the planet, from the ground up.

Antonella Ilaria Totaro @antotaro is a researcher, communicator, and storyteller working at the intersection of innovation, food, and agriculture. Her work lights on how circular and regenerative models can transform the way we produce, work and invest in, and think about food systems. She leads production and communication for the Investing in Regenerative Agriculture and Food podcast alongside Koen van Seijen, amplifying the voices of entrepreneurs, investors, and pioneers shaping the future of regenerative business and finance.

As a project manager at RegenEarth, Antonella contributes to EU-funded initiatives such as AI 4 Soil Health and the Open Geospatial Carbon Registry (OGCR), connecting science, technology, and on-the-ground practice.

She holds a PhD in Innovation for the Circular Economy from the University of Turin and works as a journalist for Edizioni Ambiente and Renewable Matter, bridging storytelling, entrepreneurship, and systems change.

Antonella believes that knowledge, transparency, data and patient capital are essential to scaling regenerative practices and accelerating transformation toward a fair and clean food system.

An inaugural Top 50 Farmer, Lars Olav Stavnes @lstavnes runs the Norwegian farm @reppesondre with his wife, Marie. Located just 10 minutes from downtown Trondheim, the farm reconnects urban residents with their local food supply.

The sixth generation to cultivate the land, farmed since 1661, Lars Olav and Marie successfully transitioned the family farm from a conventional monoculture to organic and then regenerative production.

Before taking over the farm, Lars Olav trained as an electrical engineer and spent ten years in the Norwegian Armed Forces, working on submarines. When he assumed responsibility for Reppe Søndre, he became increasingly interested in regenerative farming, driven by concerns about soil degradation, a desire to farm full-time, and growing curiosity from CSA customers about their agricultural practices.

Today, Reppe Søndre is a vibrant center for food, community, and social impact. Operating as a cooperative, the farm hosts multiple enterprises, including a community-supported agriculture (CSA) program, a school garden, a cut-flower business, a farm shop, an event space, and heritage grain and flour production from its own mill. The farm also rents land and facilities to the Norwegian integration and environmental organization Deep Roots, which runs a market garden and café on-site.

Audrey Bourolleau is the Co-Founder of @campus_hectar, a unique agricultural campus, spanning across 600 hectares just outside Paris. HECTAR combines a pilot farm for regenerative agriculture, entrepreneurial training, and a startup accelerator in partnership with @hec_paris, all designed to equip the next generation of farm leaders and drive transformational change in agriculture.

Her leadership extends beyond education. Audrey has held key positions in the French wine industry, including General Delegate of Vin & Société, earning the title of “Woman of the Year 2014” and worked with global brands like Baron Philippe de Rothschild. She also served as Agriculture Advisor to President Emmanuel Macron, championing policies that support farmers and rural development.

With Europe facing a major generational transition, where nearly half of French farms will change hands in the next four years, and fewer than 12% of farmers are under 40, Audrey’s work with HECTAR is supporting in bringing the next generation into farming.

As a member of the @top50farmers Selection Committee, Audrey brings her vision for innovation, education, generational renewal as well as her deep knowledge of agriculture to the team.

Dario Fornara is the Research Director of the @davinesofficial Group and @rodaleinstitute European Regenerative Organic Center (EROC) in Italy, where he leads research, education, and dissemination efforts to show how biodiversity and regenerative practices benefit soil health.

With over 90 scientific publications and involvement in global networks like the FAO LEAP Partnership and the Global Soil Partnership, Dario brings unmatched expertise in soil ecology, carbon management, and sustainable land use.

His academic journey spans the globe: a PhD in Ecology from the University of Pretoria, postdoctoral research at the University of Minnesota and Lancaster University, and a lectureship in Terrestrial Ecology at Ulster University. He has led major research programs at the Agri-Food Biosciences Institute (AFBI) in Belfast, focusing on terrestrial ecology and soil biogeochemistry.

Dario believes that healthy soils and biodiverse ecosystems are the foundation for resilient, regenerative agriculture, and that research is key to scaling these practices globally.

Sandra Villumsen is a Danish farmer, teacher, and a strong leading voice in regenerative agriculture. As a farmer herself, she knows firsthand the challenges and rewards of rebuilding soil health, fostering biodiversity, and creating farms that are both productive and restorative.

Beyond her own fields at Farendløse Farm, Sandra is shaping the future of farming through education and leadership.
