Privacy & Cookie Policy
Last updated: 4 October 2026 · Notice version 1.0
Your privacy, your choice.
This notice explains how Top 50 Farmers uses personal information when you visit our website, explore farmers, contact us or subscribe to our news. It also explains your cookie choices. You can explore the site without agreeing to optional analytics.
1. Who is responsible?
Foodprint Europe is responsible for the personal information covered by this notice. Top 50 Farmers is the name of our initiative.
Foodprint Europe
Otto Bussesvej 45
2450 Copenhagen, Denmark
CVR: 42129542
Privacy requests: hello@top50farmers.org.
2. Information we use and why
Website operation and security. Our hosting provider Wix processes technical information needed to deliver the website, handle requests, keep services secure and remember cookie choices. This can include IP addresses, browser information, security logs and necessary identifiers. We rely on our legitimate interests in running a reliable, secure website. Where a cookie or similar technology is strictly necessary for a service you request, it does not require optional-cookie consent.
Optional analytics. If you allow Analytics, Google Analytics 4 can help us understand visits, pages viewed, engagement, broad location, device and browser types, referral sources and interactions with the farmer explorer. Explorer measurements may include the selected view, edition or country, public farmer identifiers, profile and story openings, outward-link clicks, and time spent actively exploring. These tools can use pseudonymous browser identifiers: the data is not automatically anonymous simply because it does not include your name. We rely on your consent for this measurement. Wix statistics additionally require the External media choice because Wix groups certain embedded maps within its analytics permission. The two systems therefore may measure different subsets of consenting visits.
We do not intentionally send names, email addresses, form answers or the raw text typed into the farmer search field to Google Analytics. A search measurement can describe whether results were found or which public farmer was selected, without sending what a visitor typed.
We use these insights to improve the website, understand interest in regenerative farming, plan communications, and prepare aggregate reports for our team, funders and partners. We do not intend to provide funders with individual visitors' browsing histories. Cookie consent is not consent to unrelated research, advertising or future uses. Any materially new purpose requires its own assessment and, where needed, a new choice.
Messages and forms. If you contact us, recommend a farmer or submit a request, we use the contact details and message you provide to handle it. A recommendation may also contain a farmer’s contact details and public farm information. We use those details to contact the recommended farmer about the opportunity; as explained on the recommendation form, we share the recommender’s name and message with the farmer, not their email address. Depending on the request, the basis is our legitimate interest in responding or steps you request before entering an agreement. Please avoid including sensitive information that is not needed. Newsletter and application-opening notifications use the details you submit for the updates you request. A newsletter subscription is a separate choice from cookies; you can unsubscribe using the link in our emails. We keep subscription details while you subscribe and retain the minimum suppression information needed to respect an unsubscribe request. Our application links may take you to Zealous, a separate platform whose privacy information applies to its own service. Foodprint Europe remains responsible for the application information it requests through that platform. Application assessment, submitted materials and programme participation are separate from website analytics; cookie consent does not authorize those uses.
External media. Videos, maps and social features may connect to Google/YouTube or Meta/Instagram. Loading them can disclose technical information such as your IP address and the page requested, and providers may use identifiers. Optional embedded services load after the relevant choice. You can use the farmer explorer without loading a third-party map or video. Following an external link takes you to a separate service with its own notice.
3. Cookies and your choices
Essential — always on. Used for security, delivery of requested services and remembering privacy preferences. We do not label audience measurement as essential.
Analytics — optional. Used for the visit and explorer measurement described above. Rejecting this category does not stop you from reading profiles or using the explorer.
External media — optional. Enables embedded maps, videos and social content from the providers described above. These services may use cookies for their own purposes, including advertising. We do not activate Google advertising signals or advertising personalization in our Analytics configuration.
Our cookie banner offers Accept all, Reject optional and Customize at the same first level. Optional choices start off. The small Cookie settings icon remains available so you can change or withdraw your choice at any time. Withdrawal stops future processing that depends on that consent; it does not retrospectively make earlier processing unlawful. Some external media may instead show a clear load-content choice.
4. How long we keep information
We keep personal information only for as long as needed for its purpose, including applicable legal obligations. Enquiries and form submissions are reviewed against their operational purpose and any required record-keeping period; they are not intended to be kept indefinitely.
The configured Google Analytics user and event-data retention period is 14 months. This setting does not limit every aggregate report. Our Google Analytics cookies, such as _ga and _ga_<container-id>, are configured for up to 180 days without extending their lifetime on every visit, subject to browser restrictions. Wix uses a mixture of session and persistent cookies for its essential services.
Our consent interface stores the selected categories, notice version and choice date on your device for up to six months. It does not create a separate visitor ID for analytics. If the purposes materially change, we ask again. You can also clear website storage in your browser.
5. Providers and access
We use Wix to host and operate the website and Google Analytics 4 for optional analytics. Authorized Top 50 Farmers team members and technical support providers, including Zenda Studio, may access information where needed for their work. External media providers receive information when their content is loaded. We limit access according to need and use appropriate provider arrangements.
Wix and Google operate internationally and may process information outside Denmark or the European Economic Area, including in the United States. Their published data-processing arrangements provide for European Commission adequacy decisions and, where applicable, Standard Contractual Clauses and supplementary safeguards. Google describes its use of the EU–US Data Privacy Framework for relevant transfers. You can find details in the provider links below or request information about applicable safeguards from hello@top50farmers.org.
We do not use these website measurements to make automated decisions that have legal or similarly significant effects on visitors.
6. Your rights
Depending on the circumstances, you can request access, correction, deletion, restriction or a portable copy of your personal information. You can object to processing based on legitimate interests and withdraw consent at any time. Contact us through the privacy email above; we may need proportionate information to verify a request. We normally respond within one month, subject to the rules for complex requests.
You may complain to the Danish Data Protection Agency, Datatilsynet, at www.datatilsynet.dk, or to the competent supervisory authority in your country.
7. Updates and more information
We will keep this notice aligned with the services and purposes actually used. The current version and update date will be shown here. Cookie settings remain available from the green cookie icon.
