Top 50 Farmers is an acceleration platform paving the way for regenerative agriculture to be scaled from soil to gut. We identify the farmers who are role modeling what the future of farming looks like and share their stories. We also connect them with industry executives and pioneering thought leaders to unlock new opportunities across the value chain.
Karel Kalný is the farmer behind Statek Mitrov - Mitrovský Angus in the Czech Highlands, a 500-hectare regenerative farm where cattle, chickens, pigs and geese move to fresh pasture every day, and 50 beehives form part of the wider farm ecosystem.
Beyond the farm, Karel is actively involved in shaping the conditions for regenerative livestock farming in the Czech Republic, working with authorities to create clearer pathways for pasture-raised chickens, pigs and cattle, and advocating for farmers who are building alternatives to industrial production.
Inspired by mobile grazing systems, Karel has transformed Statek Mitrov from organic to regenerative, proving that daily movement, long pasture recovery and low-infrastructure animal systems can work at meaningful scale. Through Mitrovský Angus, the farm connects pasture-raised meat directly with customers through an on-farm restaurant, a shop in Brno and its own processing facilities. Karel also opens this infrastructure to other regenerative producers, helping build a stronger regional market through the wider rege.food network. Karel is also part of the Top 50 Farmers community.
