Top 50 Farmers is an acceleration platform paving the way for regenerative agriculture to be scaled from soil to gut.
We identify the farmers who are role modeling what the future of farming looks like and share their stories. We also connect them with industry executives and pioneering thought leaders to unlock new opportunities across the value chain.

Michelle Skelsgaard Sørensen is a Danish socio-economic geographer, publisher, and project lead deeply committed to farmer-driven transformation.

Today, Michelle serves as a Project Lead at the Danish organization Jordvirke - a collective initiative dedicated to empowering the next generation of regenerative and organic farmers by building alliances and strengthening cooperation. In this role, she is currently developing projects that aim to reshape the narratives around agriculture, providing new and hopeful stories for the future of farming and placing the voices, knowledge, and experiences of practitioners and farmers at the absolute center.

As the founder and director of the independent publishing house KOMPOST studio, Michelle has spent years creating impactful platforms for activist and transformative storytelling. In 2018, she launched the internationally acclaimed print magazine The Preserve Journal, followed by the sister-publication Entangled Landscapes in 2023 - a publication dedicated to telling regional food stories. Both platforms are dedicated to the exploration of more sustainable, responsible, and regenerative food cultures - telling stories that offer concrete resistance to the homogenized, extractive, industrialized, and monocultured structures that predominate today’s food cultures and systems. Through these publications, Michelle has built a global network of regenerative practitioners and dedicated her work to shifting the dominant narratives of our food systems and cultures - acting as a facilitator to create collaborative spaces where diverse voices, experiences, and place-based knowledge take center stage.

Michelle’s work is deeply rooted in the belief that it truly matters which stories we tell and hear, as they shape the futures we are able to imagine, and thereby the actions we are able to take. This philosophy directly shapes Michelle’s approach as a member of the Top 50 Farmers Selection Committee, and she looks forward to championing and celebrating the stories of farmers whose work challenges and widens our shared imagination of what is possible.

As a member of the Top 50 Farmers Selection Committee, Michelle brings a unique blend of insights from her extensive fieldwork with farmers and agricultural communities, a vast international network of pioneering practitioners, and a clear vision for transformative storytelling to the table.
